26th Annual Paws Walk
Tuesday, July 19
Registration at 6:00 PM
Walk at 7:00 PM
2902 25th St S, Fargo
On Tuesday the 19th, Homeward Animal Shelter’s 26th Annual Paws Walk will take place at Rheault Farm, rather than Lindenwood Park, where previous walks were held. Registration begins at 6 PM, with the half-mile walk beginning at 7 PM. Those wishing to participate must make a minimum donation of $25.
“We feel this 15-acre gated park is the perfect setting for our exclusive, family-friendly annual pet party,” Special Events/PR Coordinator Heather Klefstad says of Rheault Farm. “We will have goodie bags for the first 200 people/pets that register, including treats, toys and more.”
Free food will be provided by MSUM Catering, along with music courtesy of RetroDisc DJ. All-ages activities include a face painting, inflatable games, a photo booth, vendor booths, prizes, and giveaways. For anyone looking to adopt, shelter cats and dogs will be featured.
“All proceeds go directly towards the shelter animals,” explains Klefstad. “For example: a donation of $10 will feed twelve cats for a week, or buy 75 pounds of cat litter. $25 will feed fifteen large dogs for a week or help vaccinate one cat or puppy. And $60-$130 will help cover the costs to spay or neuter cats and dogs in our care.”
Over the past 50 years, Homeward Animal Shelter has rescued, rehabilitated, and rehomed over 250,000 cats and dogs. As a community-funded, nonprofit organization, the shelter relies on donations and adoption fees to continue its work.
This year, the Event Grand Marshall—chosen once again by popular vote—will be a dog named Bazzil, a shelter alum who was adopted in May 2010, three months after being found on a rural highway in freezing rain. Bazzil has attended Paws Walks in the past and is always eager to befriend every human and animal he sees.
“It was a tight race between Bazzil and Cecil the cat,” Klefstad says, “but in the end Bazzil pulled ahead for the win and will proudly lead the 26th Annual Paws Walk as the Event Grand Marshal.”
As last year’s Paws Walk raised $38,000, this time the goal is $40,000. Pledge forms are available at homewardonline.org for anyone wishing to collect donations. Contributions of $75 or more will be matched by sponsors and rewarded with free Paws Walk t-shirts. Individual donations can also be made on the shelter’s fundraising page on Razoo.com.
The title sponsor for this event is Patrick Luger, MD, of Essentia Health. Other sponsors include Casey’s General Stores, Prairie Winds Veterinary Center, Bremer Bank, West Fargo Animal Hospital, Doggy Depot, and CI Sport.
