Last year, Fargo’s Homeward Animal Shelter held their first Spay-ghetti and No Balls Lunch at the Holiday Inn, a fundraiser that drew about 250 people and raised over $3,200 for the shelter’s spay and neuter fund.
Following that success, the Holiday Inn will be hosting its 2nd Annual Spay-ghetti and No Balls Lunch this Thursday, sponsored by Sysco Foods and the Alex Stern Family Foundation. Along with spaghetti, there will be breadsticks, salad, lemonade, and cupcakes for dessert, courtesy of Fantasies in Frosting.
Once again, people of all ages are welcome to attend, with the only price of admission being a free will donation. An educational slideshow will play during the event and present photos of adoptable animals along with spay and neuter facts and statistics.
“The only thing different about this year’s event is that we have included a raffle,” says event coordinator Heather Klefstad. “Last year we did a few door prizes but thought it’d be fun to try a raffle this year.”
Raffle items will include a West Acres Gift Card, a Scheels Gift Card, an Xbox 360 and three games, and a camping package complete with a portable gas grill and s’mores kit. Homeward Animal Shelter merchandise will be available for purchase, along with free pamphlets, brochures, and donation wish lists.
Along with raising funds, the shelter hopes to spread awareness of the importance of spaying and neutering pets to curb overpopulation in shelters nationwide.
“Sadly, there are millions of homeless pets in the United States,” says Klefstad. “And way too many right here in our own community. You can make a difference and help prevent this problem by simply spaying and neutering.”
